~Welcome to Ten Penny Tattoo~
At Ten Penny Tattoo/Art Gallery we focus on the art. Our goal is to provide you with tattoos that are one of a kind and customized to your style. Each artist will create the perfect tattoo for you to wear for the rest of your life. Whether you prefer color, black and grey, or something in between we can do it all.
JOB OPPORTUNITY AT TEN PENNY!
Ten Penny Tattoo is looking to hire an experienced artist to fill out our roster. We currently employ three artists totaling 44 years of experience but we have room for one more. We are looking for an artist with at least five years experience tattooing as a professional. All applicants must be interviewed in person and must meet all of the requirements listed below, no exceptions. Ten Penny is a new shop, just reaching our one year anniversary, so walk in business is a bit slow. Any one interested in working here as an artist should already have some clients that can follow them over here. We have been advertising and have plans for more in the upcoming year that should increase our walk in business. This is a great opportunity to get in on the ground floor of what will become one of the premier tattoo shops in the Albuquerque area.
Pay and benefits of being an artist at Ten Penny will be discussed in person to all applicants. I can only say that we know how to treat our artists and will reward artists that benefit our shop. We offer a clean and friendly environment that defies the common perception of a typical tattoo shop. Half of our 2,000sq. ft. space is dedicated to our art gallery. The gallery carries art from many local artists. Most of the art is for sale while some are for display only. This creates a very artistic environment that promotes creativity and inspiration to all forms of art. At Ten Penny Tattoo we focus on creating custom tattoos no matter what the design may be. We do not carry flash art or trace images from the internet. Artists here are expected to devote time to designing a customers tattoo no matter what the size or theme may be. From a name on the wrist to a full sleeve, they're all treated with the same care.
To avoid wasting anyone's time you should call or stop by to set up an appointment time to conduct your interview. I stay pretty busy with tattooing and will not make my clients wait while I interview you. When you come for your interview you should have these things with you:
1. Proof of at least five years of professional tattooing experience. This means either copies of your tattoo licenses or if you were tattooing in a state that doesn't require licensing, tax records that show you were employed at a tattoo shop as an artist. We will not hire any one that has been tattooing from home.
2. Current certificates for Bloodborne & Airborne Pathogens training, First Aid, and CPR.
3. A current portfolio of tattoos that you've done. Photos of healed tattoos are a plus. If you have any one that you've tattooed that is willing to come along with you that will be fine too in addition to your portfolio.
4. A portfolio or sketch book of your original art.
We will be looking for strong art ability first and foremost. Personality and professionalism is very important too. Interviews will be kept completely confidential. We are looking to hire someone before the end of the year but if you need to give notice to a current employer we are more than willing to wait for the right artist.
To set up an interview time please call or stop by the shop:

This Is How I Draw #2, by Lou Gomes
This Is How I Draw #2, an art class for anyone interested in learning how to draw, or artists that want to add some new methods to their art. The class will be on Saturday, May 9th, at 6pm, at Ten Penny Tattoo/ Art Gallery, 225 San Pedro NE ABQ, (505)2683676, info@tenpennytattoo.com. You should bring a sketch pad, pencils, and non-repro red or blue pencils (these can be found at any art/office supply store).
The first class earlier this year went very well. We covered a lot of the basics on sketching, layout/design, and drawing in perspective. This Is How I Draw #2 will review these topics for new students and go into a bit more depth on them for returning ones.
Depending on class size and how fast we cover the basics, I will be adding an hour of Drawing the Human Body. In this part of the class I will teach you what I know about drawing the human form in any pose without using a model or reference. Drawing the human figure takes a long time of study and practice, but I will give you the basic tools to get you started. This, and future anatomy classes will eventually be augmented by having a live model to draw and reinforce the anatomy lessons I have provided.
There is no charge for these art classes. However, I do put out a tip jar for anyone wishing to contribute to my time and instruction. Tips/donations are not mandatory, but much appreciated.

Adam M Padilla, new Guest Artist, April-???
Ten Penny Tattoo is proud to welcome Adam M Padilla into our shop beginning in April. Adam has been tattooing for almost two decades and is an amazing painter/illustrator as well. Check out some of his amazing work on his facebook page, or stop by Ten Penny to see his porfolio in person. We will also be carrying his fine art in our gallery. http://www.facebook.com/horrorshow1313
Guest Artist, Canman, this Feb.
Check "Guest Artists" page for full details.
"This Is How I Draw" Sat. January 28th @ 6:00pm
Due to overwhelming popular demand I will be finally hosting an art class. Although it really isn't a class, more like a seminar on how I draw. I will be going over some of my techniques on layout/composition, sketching, creating dynamic images, and more. This will be an introductory lesson that will introduce some of the crucial basics to drawing anything, anytime. The subjects and techniques that I will be demonstrating can help any artist of any experience level in addition to any form of art. It is my hope that in time this seminar will blossom into an ongoing collaboration and sharing of ideas and techniques among artists.
Anyone interested is welcome to come. Whether you've never tried drawing or are an experienced artist. If you will be attending you will need to bring a few items to participate:
1. Sketch Pad. Preferably one that fits comfortably in your lap, not a big giant one.
2. Pencils. These can be wooden pencils or mechanical. Do not bring a pen, markers, or crayons.
3. Some sort of non-reproductive pencil. These can be found at an art store and sometimes at office supply stores. They are generally light blue or red in color. If you can't find them you can use a red checking pencil, found at office supply stores like Staples.
There is no charge for this class. Just show up, listen, and have fun. The class should be from 6pm to 8pm, but it may run late. I hope to see you all here.
Thanks,
Lou

Ten Penny Tattoo Grand Opening Party!!!
First off let me thank everyone that came to our Grand Opening Gala! We had a great time hanging out with all of our friends and clients. I (Lou) spent most of my time in my chair tattooing and it felt like my days of working at a tattoo convention. The music, the crowd, and the atmosphere were electric. Raven also tattooed our friend Mo, who came all the way from Las Cruces to help us break in our new digs.
Music was supplied by DJ Chops and his band Slik 50. Food was catered by Dawn Sanchez Creations. Fun was supplied by you! Here's a few pics to enjoy. If you were here and have some photos of our party please email them to info@tenpennytattoo.com so I can post them here. Thanks!
